Scalzi's one character does it again. The twists are a bit obvious but I had fun

John Scalzi seems to apply here the same formula as in some his other works: a smart and smug protagonist has to save a cute and endangered alien by showing wits and compassion.
This formula works for me, and even better here than in Agent to the stars.
The dialogues are funny, the characters lovable, the stakes are high and there is a clear antagonist.
I had a great time and would definitely recommend.

Didn't find it as good as the original
adventurous dark emotional funny hopeful inspiring lighthearted mysterious fast-paced

I laughed out loud while listening to this. Wil Wheaton does an excellent job reading it.

Jack Holloway is a character that is hard to like, but also hard to hate, while Carl is loved by all.
Definitely gets you thinking about sentience, exploitation, and unexpected consequences of actions.

Adorable, funny, and another great Scalzi novel. The characters are all so interesting (even the dog has a compelling personality) and I love Scalzi’s way of making a main character who is flawed, and doesn’t come out the end a totally perfect person, but someone who sees their flaws and knows how to be good despite them. Definitely some dark moments, but such is life.
