I loved the concept of a small town, with feuding families, a curse around love and the mix of humans and witches.
But the overall story fell a bit flat. I wanted to be mesmerized by the characters and their stories but it meandered for me. It had a lot of potential that wasn’t quite reached on the audio. It was enjoyable but forgettable.

A tragic YA story about a girl named Penny and her mom caught in the cross hairs of 2 rival families that are sworn enemies because of something that happened generations ago. And now, Penny’s mom is stuck in a deadly curse and it’s Penny’s job to do something and save her mom.
As I’m reading this book, I was struggling a bit to really honestly CARE about Penny and her mom and this small town feud between Alonso and Corey.
The author BRIEFLY touches on racism that one of the boys face because he is half black in the racist town of Indiana.
I felt the start of the book could have been SOOOO much better but it felt like a drag tbh. I was so close to def’ing but I seriously wanted to give it a chance.
I think the magic system kind of also threw me off a bit but I did come around to understanding it soon enough though.
This book is apart of a duology and the next book comes out May 2026 . MAYBE i’ll pick up book 2 but idk. The cliffhanger was good but still..
