This was a perfect blend of Riverdale, Sabrina the Teenage Witch (Netflix), and a good dollop of Practical Magic and I loved every moment!
As YA it leans into the teen angst/melodrama heavily, which is good to know going in as an adult reader, but it all works so well that these poor traumatised babies had my heart from the get go and I can’t wait for the next book.

One of my favorite reads of the year! I’m such a sucker for small town/rural witchcraft as a plot line. If you enjoyed The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater, this book is for you!

This was such a fun, easy to read, paranormal/spooky vibes book. There's a curse, witches (but not explicit witchcraft), and an adorable cat familiar who gets a little scary sometimes. While the characters are a little young (they're 17 and in high school), they didn't really read as extremely immature. The story was engaging, and that ending?! Hello?! I will definitely be picking up the 2nd book next year.

I liked the idea, but the execution left a bit to be desired. The middle dragged a bit, but I'm glad I pushed through because I liked the ending. Not sure if I'm invested enough to read the next one or not.

I LOVED this! What a brilliant young adult fantasy book. I liked the paranormal side to it and enjoyed the way the enemies joined forces. I am looking forward to the next book!
I really struggled to get into this book. Besides our inciting incident, the beginning of the book felt very sluggish and repetitive. It should have been cool, but I don’t think I was vibing with the writing style. I was entertained enough to keep reading it, and it did get better, but not until about the 70% mark. The ending didn’t make up for the beginning but it sure did try. The reveal didn’t surprise me but it was satisfying.
DNF @ 16%. I knew almost straight away that I wasn't going to like this but I pushed further because gosh DARN that Fairyloot special edition is pretty. As of today, I am going to stop reading based on special editions I'd like to own because of aesthetic reasons.
The writing was mostly flat and at times came off extremely scripted but it was also interspersed by good writing so it was a constant waffle for me. However, had huge problems with Alonso being head over heels for Penny when he's hardly ever talked to her and she thinks he hates him, Penny herself outside of interactions with her mother, and the whiff of love triangle with Corey that makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever.
Kudos to the artist that worked on the Fairyloot because it seems you've gotten a lot of us, ha.
