Forget what you've heard! Forget what you've heard!

The Colossus and other poems are superior to Ariel. How fresh, young, raw! I truly enjoyed reading this book! If you love Plath or would love to see a young poet mending her craft, read this! The Colossus and other poem is another book to join me in my grave!

Poems that changed me:
"The Eye-Mote"
"The Colossus"
"Point Shirley"
"Suicide off Egg Rock"
"The Ghost's Leavetaking"
"Blue Moles"
"The Beekeeper's Daughter"
"Medallion"
"A Winter's Ship"
"Mussel Hunter at Rock Harbor"

While I did enjoy this poetry collection, I do prefer Plath's prose to her poetry. The poems were sometimes a bit too adrift in abstraction for my taste although I did readily enjoy Colossus, A Winter Ship, and The Stones.

"Love is the bone and sinew of my curse / The vase, reconstructed, houses / The elusive rose. // Ten fingers shape a bowl for shadows. / My mendings itch. There is nothing to do. / I shall be as good as new."

I did not find this collection particularly enjoyable, which was a massive shame as I'm entirely obsessed with Plath at the minute. I think it's massively less confessional than Ariel so I found it a bit uncomfortable in that sense, I kind of like when poets confess all their shit! But yeah, I'm not sure what it was it just didn't strike me in anyway, no poem in particular stood out as amazing, quite disappointed
