A solid story. I love all the twists and turns and how unexpected things kept coming until the end.

Out of all the crime detectives' sidekicks I've read about, Hastings might not be the brightest.

got a bit too wacky at the end there but overall very good

I made a guess who I thought it was, assuming I'd be wrong. And then *spoilers* I was right! I was like omg, I got it! Then i was wrong, then wrong again and then wrong AGAIN. So many twists

Whoo, boy, does Hastings get ever so much more annoying in this sequel! Regardless, I still enjoyed the interesting twists and turns to be had in the second Poirot novel, featuring a double murder.

Agatha Christie does a great job of letting you think the mystery has been solved... but you never know when she is going to add in another twist, change the murderer, or even just turn everything upside down. As mentioned, Hastings does get a bit aggravating in the end - jaded creature I am, I was rolling my eyes for such a prolonged time that they got stuck in the upwards position - but as always, I appreciate having to follow in the know-nothing's footsteps in order to properly have the mystery solved in one eloquent soliloquy. (Surprisingly enough, Hastings does start using his "grey cells" a bit more in this one! Gives me hope for the next... 37 books.)

It was fine? I honestly wasn't paying as much attention to it as I should have been to leave it a proper review. That happens to me, sometimes.

Poirot receives an urgent summons to France, but when he arrives with Hastings they find M. Renaud murdered at the edge of a nearby golf course. But nothing is as it seems, with a mysterious woman on the train, and a love letter in Renaud’s coat pocket, and a lovely neighbor’s evening visits, and mysterious business in Argentina. But then a second body is found, and everything changes, though the whole case feels very familiar to Poirot. Will Poirot be able to find who actually murder M. Renaud?

This was a fun one, with new layers added to the mystery as pieces and clues are revealed. And there’s even a love story element! Quite fun!
