"Drinking is not inherently immoral. A night of heavily drinking calls for advil and water. But being drunk and raped seems to call for condemnation."
I have no words for this book. This is undoubtedly the BEST memoir I've ever read, and really, really loved. It's so good that after finished reading, I wanted to thank Chanel Miller for being so strong and for having written her story.
This memoir dives deep into how ugly healing is, and how the battle doesn't end when the case ends. Rape victims fight at least 2 battles - the one in court, and the one with themselves. And Miller did a beautiful job in delivering her story as she went through both. I recommend this book to everyone: boys, girls, parents, teenagers, elders, everyone who wants to broaden their horizon and everyone who wants to learn empathy, to be human, to be kind.

This book was so moving, there were moments that left me breathless - Miller has a way with words that seemed effortless but so well constructed. It’s nothing like a memoir I’ve read before. She had such strength of character and is to be commended for sharing her story in such a raw way.
Graphic: Sexual assault

"If I were to say I was healed and redeemed, I worry a victim would feel insufficient, as if they have not tried hard enough to cross some nonexistent finish line. I write to stand beside them in their suffering."
Reading this book was a journey filled with heartbreak, devastation, and hope. I cried a lot while reading and listening. Thank you, Chanel, for your voice, your strength, and your bravery in sharing your story.
"I think of how I want to return the favor; to pull the heaviness off you, to be the one yelling it is not okay, pinning your demons down in the dirt, so you suddenly find yourself free, given the chance to begin your journey, growing on your own, uncovering your voice, finding your way back. I want to stay and fight, while you go."toribarn's review against another edition
