I was inspired to read this after reading Kelly Bishops memoir and also currently doing my own Gilmore Girls rewatch. This was fine. I think sometimes when authors try to be funny and ramble on to make a point or just be silly it gets kind of annoying. I feel like in a way Lauren Graham IS Lorelei Gilmore so when she did it here it made sense but still kind of got annoying. I also kind of spoiled my rewatch by listening to this before I finished the series. But that’s on me. Not sure if I’ll read Lauren’s other book or not. We’ll see. Overall this was still a good read if you’re a fan of the show.

At first, I wasn’t sure I could do this. I listened to it on audio and let’s just say, Lauren Graham is high energy and so unserious. I thought it was going to be overwhelmingly cringe, but I started loosening up and really began to enjoy Lauren, just like I had with her character Lorelai on Gilmore Girls, whom felt like too much in those initial episodes (I’ve always been a Rory lover myself) but she became just as beloved as the rest of the characters.
Lauren is actually very relatable- I also suffer from a terrible memory where things just seem like a blur or not there at all. And she’s still very down to earth for having the type of success she’s worked for. I want to watch Parenthood now!
Her writing is very light and fun, and the narration matches it completely. I think Lauren Graham should look into voice acting if she hasn’t already because I think she does a great job at getting emotion across through voice alone.
This was a pleasant experience!

Let me preface this by saying I'm a huge Gilmore Girls fan. Which is why I picked this up.
I enjoyed listening to her stories but it felt a little scatterbrained (Lorelai Gilmore vibes all the way). It's like 3 books smashed into one. The topics ranged from her experiences leading toward a career in show business, advice on what to ignore about celebrity lifestyles, to her looking back on her time(s) playing Lorelai Gilmore.
When she bulldozed through her watching the initial seasons of the show, it made me want to hear Alexis Bledels take on the original run of the show. I would definitely listen to a GG podcast similar to Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinseys podcast "Office Ladies"...and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
It did make me curious to read her novel so I might be adding that to my TBR.
