Realistically, this book wasn't a four stars read. I don't think the authors' writing styles merge well enough, because it's slow af to read even when action is going on. And it's not because it's overly descriptive or anything, it's just the sentences are a bit weird? They're all the same length and you just read and read and read for hours and it's been like 10 pages.

But the things it makes me feel are so raw and I've been through a lot with these characters and the worldbuilding is amazing, so.

This is a very nice conclusion to the Starbound Trilogy, and though I still have a few lingering questions, I feel everything has been neatly wrapped up.

The Whispers were an interesting character with a very physical presence throughout the series, and the way the "final showdown" convened didn't seem forced. I'd been waiting for a meeting between all six main characters, and I was not disappointed. Like many other readers, I still feel a little more attached to Tarver and Lilac, probably because they've been in all three books with some sort of overall purpose. Not to say that the others don't, but once you get to know a character for three books, they kind of stick.

I do like Gideon's character a bit more, even though it felt like he got put on the backburner a little bit, once other characters started showing up. The portrayal of his relationship with Sofia was a little rocky--though I suppose that's only supposed to highlight how distrustful these two are of each other and everyone else--but I am glad that they both learned to break down those walls they were hiding behind with each other.

In terms of the overall story arc, I'm left a little wanting, but I think it's a healthy want. However, if Ms. Spooner and Ms. Kaufman ever decide to revisit this universe again, I'd happily jump into it; I can't believe it's taken me so long to finally read this series! Anyway, rambling aside, this was a fairly addictive set of books and I can't imagine what they'll come up with for their next series set in space. Cause god, do they do it well.

I probably would have enjoyed this series a lot more if I had finished it when I first started it in 2015.

So sad to see such a great series end. Truly enjoyed this scifi adventure. I loved the mix of action, romance, and deep philosophical themes.
