So sad to see such a great series end. Truly enjoyed this scifi adventure. I loved the mix of action, romance, and deep philosophical themes.

This was a mostly satisfying conclusion but it wasn't without some problems. I definitely think These Broken Stars was my favorite in the trilogy.

I had some issues with:
* The husks. I didn't quite get why they needed to be around, what the whisper was accomplishing with them, and it felt like a lot of time was devoted to them. They weren't that scary...I mean they weren't even killing/hurting anyone, they were just searching. I am not one to shy away from a zombie book, but these were watered down boring 'zombies' and I didn't want them in this book.

* Parts got a bit slow. There was a lot of moving through wreckage and cutting their hands on broken concrete and hanging out in dirty abandoned shops. Basically, this story could've been a lot shorter.

* Sofia and Gideon had way too much insta-love. If I'm honest, all 3 books definitely have everyone getting close very fast time-wise, but I could let it slide in the first two, and at least Lilac and Tarver had to overcome their sniping to get along. But these guys just didn't do much for me. We never got to see them talk about their issues; they both just stewed in them until they kind of just...got over it.

The upsides were seeing all of our characters from other books interact and the ending turned out fine.

I loved the original characters in this book, but the pacing got a little slow towards the middle. Overall, though, I really enjoyed this whole series, worth a read if you like YA sci-fi!

Niet uitgelezen.
Eerste helft valt nog redelijk mee. Dan komen ineens andere personages er weer terug bij, en ik besef dat het mij eigenlijk gewoon echt niet interesseert wat er nog gaat gebeuren.

This book was the perfect end to the trilogy. like a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle, every minor detail came together.

I liked this series, but for whatever reason I couldn't get into this one the way I did with the other two. Maybe it dragged on too long? Either way I kept finding myself checking out and having to go back and re-read sentences.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed it šŸ˜„

I have absolutely adored this series!! In this final installment, we get a new romance between Sofia and Gideon, but we also get all of our favorite characters back and LOTS of tie-ins to the previous two books. The first half of the book (or so) focuses on Sofia and Gideon - both of them have been trying to fight back against LaRoux Industries, but Sofia has also been running from an unknown entity who is stalking her, making her life a living hell at every turn. Gideon has lived his life in secret in a different way - hiding behind technology to do his worst to LaRoux. So neither of these two are able to trust easily, and the road to romance for them is paved with heartache.

Just when I was starting to get worried that the romance was going to be dragged out too long for my tastes, the story did a complete 180 and changed focus almost completely. I won't tell you exactly what happens, of course, but I will say that there's a catastrophic incident and everything goes haywire. Plus, this is when old friends are reintroduced. From that point on, the book was action-packed and exciting and full of pretty much everything I've loved about the series (but lighter on the romance at that point, which bothered some people - I was okay with that). One other noteworthy point - I loved the little snippets that we get at the beginning of each chapter from the Whispers' POV - this not only gave us lots of their perspective on the humans they'd been dealing with for three books (and before), but also brought us to the eventual thrilling end! I did feel like this book moved a little slower than the others for me at first, so I give this installment 4.5/5 stars.

A really great and exciting ending to the series. If I had any issues with it, it would be that (because all the couples are together) Sofia and Gideon don't get a lot of "screen time" to development as individuals or/and a couple. That said, Sofia and Gideon are fairly awesome characters (loved their backstories and connections to the other characters!) and are really adorable together.

In terms of the series as a whole, Their Fractured Light wraps up the mystery in a nice and enjoyable way. This book was action-packed and the mission to destroy LaRoux Industries was fantastic - especially as LeRoux Industries has been such a villain since the start of the series.

Overall, the series was really well written and was an amazing ride. Everything wrapped up in an amazing, interconnected way - it didn't feel like their were any major plot holes or forgotten characters. The Starbound trilogy is most certainly recommended to lovers of science-fiction and young adult novels.

ā€œBecause if you stay, then rage and grief and pain are inevitable. To live is to feel these things.ā€

I thought this was a pretty solid ending to the series! I liked the spy-feel of the first half of the book. I was so surprised when it was revealed Gideon was Simonā€™s brother, but it makes sense since all of the characters are connected somehow. Having the interludes between chapters from the POV of The Collective was so interesting and emotional. I think the interludes were my favorite part of the book. Also, the chapter from Lilacā€™s POV to finish what was started with the Collective šŸ¤Œ.

I thought the pacing was a bit weird in the book. It was a very quick start and then the middle got slow at times. The ending was also a bit confusing with what was happening. I also found Sophia to be a bit insufferable toward the end ngl. She got better when she accepted her feelings for Gideon, but there was a minute when she was making me mad lol.
