Kohei is a university student who is slowly suffering from hearing loss. While he’s not deaf yet, he’s still trying to process what it will be like for him when he no longer can hear at all. Due to this, he’s tried to distance himself from others and starts to isolate himself.
This all changed when he meets the every cheerful and loud Taichi, another student. The two boys become friends and Kohei realizes he thinks of Taichi as more than just a friend and eventually confesses his feeling and Taichi and Kohei try to figure out their new relationship and how to be there for each other in their lives.
So, this is my first time being introduced to this series. A friend got me the first to volumes of I Hear The Sunspot Limit. However, I’m thinking I must have jumped ahead on these as it seems like I’m missing the main back story of when Kohei and Taichi actually meet since in this book, Kohei is still a university student studying labor laws so he can help employers manage employees with disabilities in the future meanwhile Taichi has started at a company where he is also working with training new staff on communication and teamwork and they also approach the topic of hearing impaired employees. However, Taichi didn’t seem to fully realize (at least from what I gathered after this book) that Kohei was going through hearing loss so I’m not sure if that is what pushed Taichi into his line of work or not).
Anyways, as far as boys love romance stories go, this definitely had all the elements of a great story. As often the case with these titles, both boys are unsure how to define their relationship but clearly care for each other but have a hard time with public displays of affection (at least for Taichi as he gets very shy and freaks out when Kohei kisses him out of the blue but then when he didn’t kiss him when they were alone, Taichi was worried about Kohei’s lack of affectionate moments, so it’s clear they both need to work on communicating what they need/want from each other out of their relationship.
Overall this has a lot of sweet moments and for me it was very interesting having a main character that had partial hearing loss as this isn’t as talked about in most romantic mangas. It was very hard seeing Kohei struggle with fully embracing loosing his hearing one day and it definitely brings more attention to what people who are deaf or are loosing their hearing have to deal with just in navigating their daily lives and relationships.
I’m going to finish the books I have now but my main complaint was the books were a bit confusing at first as I thought this was the beginning of the series but it seems I’ve missed the background of our two protagonists actually meeting and falling in love, so while I caught up pretty quickly, I wished I had know there were other books before so I could have read them in the proper order.

i really like this manga series, but the way the mcs act sometimes is just so infuriating. you are adults. talk to eachother. communicate. don't act like dumb teenagers plz.
maya is also a bit infuriating but i can understand her need to be protective of kohei. the new character is also interesting but i'm afraid he will come in between kohei and taichi too.

This was a good volume. I liked seeing Taichi in the workplace and see him figuring things out. I feel like it is leading up to some pretty big drama though, especially with how insecure Kohei :(
