It may have been my overly emotional state at the time of reading this book, but I felt SO DANG MUCH.

Parts of the book were a bit slow. I preferred the narration from some points of view to others. I don't care... I devoured this heartbroken love story at a time when I needed it most.

Spoilers ahead.

The first half or so was particularly slow. I felt very meh about the whole thing, until we got to have Noodle be our narrator. Once he began narrating, I was convinced the whole story should have been from his perspective. Then the story started to pick up, once we found out about Catherine's pregnancy.

But as the story continued, the less I liked it, and the less believable it became. I just had a baby, and I CANNOT imagine a human taking away the opportunity for me to know my child. I cannot imagine ever forgiving that human being for all the moments I would have missed. Even though it was framed as well intentioned, I mostly thought it was a small-minded decision of Catherine's that ended up being more selfish than selfless. Just no way, I don't care how much weight a young person had on their shoulders. Especially since Jasper spent so much of his life being lonely, and didn't have much of a relationship with his own siblings.

I also thought the dynamic between Chloe and her mother was strange. Mom's neglect was almost confusing, how she thought she could just leave. And Chloe not expressing more anger....c'mon!

I did appreciate some of the literary references. As a woman with a degree in English, the quotes and references made me want to go back and read a few classics I missed.

There were some good moments, but overall, quite boring and the way it all panned out mostly made me angry.

"Do not leave me in this abyss where I cannot find you."

As a fellow lover of Wuthering Heights, this made me feel an unexpected amount of emotions.
