When Chloe, a local librarian, discovers an old book at a flea market she is shocked to see that there are notes scribbled in the margins from many years ago. She determines these notes are written by two young lovers, and this book isn’t the only one. As she sets out to solve this literary scavenger hunt, she discovers the curmudgeon, Jasper who lives next door is likely one of the authors of the notes. In between raising her siblings after her mother went estranged, she works to break down the walls that Jasper has built to get to the bottom of this mystery and in doing so discovers she too could benefit from letting others in and accepting some help.

I enjoyed this book. It was a little slow at times but I was curious about the mystery of the notes and it kept me interested. I always love a book set around an old cranky man, and a book about books is also a bonus. I admired Chloe for her sacrifices for her siblings , but I felt sad for her and the way her mother treated them. There were some characters I especially enjoyed, such as Noodle her younger brother, and Zach.

This book was sooo cute. Very lighthearted, fast read. Read it during the fall season and it felt cozy.

I am Jasper. He is me. Big feelings.

This was good, pretty slow. I don't think I would have finished if it weren't for the audiobook

I give this book a 3.5. Really enjoyed the storyline until the end. I see what the author was doing but it felt she just had to wrap things up. It tells of an epic love story that a librarian discovers while facing all of life’s challenges that were thrown at her. Do we know if Chloe felt contentment in the end?
