I think if I had read this when I was 7, I would have enjoyed it a lot.
Now as a grown up I suppose I want a little more meat and less nonsensical antics. Don’t get me wrong, Pippi as a free spirit not letting anyone force her to do things is awesome, but as a character she doesn’t learn much or overcome any challenges.
A fun read, doesn’t hold up for grown ups to enjoy in quite the same way children can.

Oh my gosh it's been such a long time since I read this book. It would have to be three or more years back when I first picked up this book, and, let me tell you, the heart of the story has stolen my soul. It is a lighthearted warm romp through the wilds of childhood, and yet a strangely tender book. Dear Pippi is a fearless child who lives her life the way she wants to...mostly. Her mischievous shenanigans are based from a heart that is pure gold, and one that aches for her seafaring father to return home. Much like the renowned (and beloved) detective, Sherlock Holmes, she boldly leads others in crazy adventures and asserts herself very dramatically to those around her, which endears her to those she meets. And, much like the detective, the adventure and mystery she happily dives headfirst into serve as a shield between her and the tumultuous emotions she feels for her family, the mother who died and the cannibalistic father whose been out at sea and on islands nearly all of Pippi's life. My heart raced in excitement as she led her newfound friends on her adventures, and it ached when she softly described her longing for a true family.
My dear Pippi, who knew you would have such an effect on me, and on those around me! My dear, redheaded girl, with pigtails sticking out and blowing in the wind...this one's for you. <3
