informative inspiring slow-paced

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. She backs up with a lot of studies. Quite inspirational.

This book was interesting. A little rambly... but overall good ideas. It took me a little bit of time and patience to make my way through it but I am glad that I did.
hopeful reflective medium-paced

There was lots of good wisdom in here - lots of interesting advice (often backed by statistics) for building a life that leaves lots of room to thrive. Not everything rang true for me, but a lot of it did.

I was a First Reads winner of this book. This book is full of solid advice! Some may view the advice as simple common sense, and thus, not worthy of a read. However, we often need some of that common sense reinforced and presented to us in ways that are convincing and make sense. Thus, Arianna provides an array of facts, study results, and personal stories to drive her points home. In addition, she organizes the book around four logical themes: Well-being, Wisdom, Wonder, and Giving. I appreciated her selection of these categories; not too many and very appropriate. One big takeaway for me from the book (discussed in the Well-Being section) was to make sure you are getting enough sleep! I was certainly motivated to take greater care of myself in that area.

For me, I find personal stories to be particularly inspiring and revealing. They probably move me to action more than any statistical information -- so I would have liked to have read more of those. Nevertheless, the personal stories included were really great. For example, she had some great little vignettes about her mother that were really wonderful. I only wish there had been more personal stories since I seemed to gobble them up like candy! However, the other thing I always really enjoy is a good quote; and Arianna had them interspersed throughout her book! On that note, I will close with a favorite from Marcus Aurelius about the events of your life (abridged here; full quote on p.118 in the Wisdom section): "...And everything is turned to one's advantage when he greets a situation like this: You are the very thing I was looking for..."

36th book of 2015

A must read for anyone who wants to know the secrets to really thriving in life. Arianna will give us a lot to think about and chew on. Those of us who choose to follow her suggestions are likely to thrive in ways we have not known before.

A little repetitive, but some amazing truths in this book.

Enjoyed the book.

I'm convinced the books you need gravitate toward you when you need to hear the words and have the experience to soak them in and truly understand the it concepts.

The last chapter on giving was useful however a tab bit too long.

Throughout the entire book, I feel like the author was trying to get me to put down the book and go to sleep... or meditate or talk to my kids. I almost felt guilty reading it on my Kindle.

That aside, in general it was an interesting read about how we need to live more in the now. The personal stories with her mother and sister were my favorite passages and I wish there were more interspersed amongst the research and facts.
