I was expecting it to be more spooky/suspense filled but it read as a cozy witch story and I really enjoyed it.

“I put my books on the shelves, arranging them alphabetically, only to change my mind and rearrange by color and then again by which books I think would be friends.”

A slice of life story regarding a young woman struggling to find happiness and an old witch who both find friendship in each other to lift the loneliness they both feel. Rather than follow a plot we follow their everyday lives as they navigate this new friendship as well as the disapproval of the townsfolk who fear the old witch. This ended up being more emotionally charged and uplifting than I expected. And I ate all of it up. I wasn’t surprised to love the book as I’ve been loving all of Rachel Harrison’s books so far, but I didn’t expect it to become perhaps my favorite from the author. It feels like a comfort novel to me. Plus I need Ralph in my life, he is too adorable.
