I tried the read a grown up book thing and it didn't work - maybe I'll try again once I'm home.

The aging thing hits more as an adult. Last time I read this was with my grandparents, now they're both gone. I see the de-aging and the minuses as kinda a metaphor for second childhood and death.

The Chinese stuff aged awfully. The stupid president thing aged remarkably though.

I love Roald for his silliness and word play.

I especially liked the sci fi elements like the space Hotel.

Laughed throughout. Cried at the minus numbers.

More fun with Charlie Bucket and Grandpa Joe and of course Willy Wonka. Not quite the pinnacle of Children's literature that Charlie and The Chocolate factory was, but still amusing and inventive.

i'm sorry but roald dahl lost the plot with this one. maybe this would have been a fun read as a kid, but as an adult this felt like a useless waste of time. why are we not exploring the chocolate factory more? why did roald dahl think the most exciting thing about the first book must be the elevator???

For the love of god, please just stick to chocolate.
