This is probably my favorite book from childhood. I didn't understand the full extent of Dahl's wit as a kid, but even then I got the word play. People might not be as familiar with this sequel as with the first adventure of Charlie, but this is another fun story filled with just as much goofiness, if not more. And definitely more Knids.

I read this ages ago and I can barely remember anything.

The plot is incoherent and while the story is imaginative, it isn't fun or whimsical.

Children might love this, but I don't think it's Roald Dahl's finest work.

This story had two completely different story lines that didn't fit together at all. This doesn't always have to be a problem, but in this case it is because those story lines did not intertwine at any point, so I think it would have been better if Dahl had chosen one of the two. Nevertheless, the writing itself and the style are phenomenal. Just like you would expect from Dahl :)

While not one of his more popular works, it certainly is one of Dahl's silliest and absurd stories. We make an abrupt shift from the fantastical land of sweets to a sci-fi escapade, and I don't know if it fully worked. This did not need to be (nor it seems at times intended to be) a Wonka story and I think it would've been more successful as a stand alone with a new cast of characters. The grandparents are the best part.

EVEN BETTER THAN THE FIRST

I especially love the bit where they travel into negative space to rescue Charlie's un-existed grandmother

What a fever dream. I never in a million years would have guessed this book would half be about space travel and aliens.

I didn't like that the aliens were trying to get them. I wanted to know more about the chocolate and candy.
