This book was fairly strange but a quick read all the same. I don’t think I’ve read a book about someone with a mental illness before, so it was an interesting experience to be inside Aza’s head. I often wanted to shake her and tell her to stop doing what she was doing, but obviously she couldn’t do that. As other reviews have said, there are basically two stories--the internal and the external. I felt like the external story of the missing billionaire was brushed aside for most of the middle section. I hadn’t been sure how John Green was going to end the story, but I was happy with how he did it.

It was an average book. I liked the representation of anxiety and OCD. However it got hard to see the point of the remaining plotline, that is the disappearance of the Millionaire Pickett. Sometimes it would get to a place where you get attached to the characters and want to know what happens to them, but suddenly it would just go off on a tangent and you wouldn't see the point. I found myself not caring about the characters that much or even the relationship between Aza and Davis. In the end it was kind of shocking to hear that she fell in love when they had only been hanging out a handful of times.

Uhhhh. Oop. Guess I’m one of the ones who doesn’t love and adore this one.

Honestly, if I physically read it maybe I would’ve liked it more? But the audiobook was SOOOO not great. But I knew if I didn’t listen to it then I’d probably never get around to actually physically reading it. So it was just what it was. But yeah that audiobook, nope sorry but I don’t recommend it.

Reading other reviews I’ve heard the rep is good in this. I don’t know too much about John green other than the only other of his books I’ve read TFIOS and that was good.

I struggled with it because hearing explicit details of Aza with her finger and everything was TOOOO much for me as a person. I’m squeamish about things with blood and all that so it wasn’t something I loved hearing all about.

I don’t love her best friend. Maybe it was the narrator again and all but she irritated me a lot.

It was okay. I think the story was interesting and how she would spiral and everything and how everything went it was okay. Just didn’t blow my socks off. Let a bit down against the rave reviews for it.

I actually really enjoyed this more than I thought I would! As someone that really struggles with OCD and intrusive thoughts like the main character, I can really sympathize with her struggle and her battle to overcome it (and lose that battle a lot, with some small wins). I will say though reading about a character that struggles with OCD makes me feel seen, a piece of myself emulated in literature. And I think that really made me like it more and truly understand what she is going through. Very good! I’d give it 4.5⭐️
