Good little novella. Wish I read these in between the main books and not after I'd finished the main series

Queen Amid Ashes is the second novella set in the Sun Eater universe. I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect going into it, especially when the first novella receives much more attention.
So, I ended up devouring it in just two days. It’s a quick read, less than 200 pages, but I think it still manages to leave a good impression. The plot itself is relatively simple, and the twists aren’t that twisty.
What stood out to me the most was reading one more step in Hadrian's evolution. Watching him turn from idealistic into someone who now clearly sees not only the cruelty of his enemies but also the cruelty of his allies. Christopher Ruocchio writes this journey beautifully.
While you won’t be lost if you skip this novella, it’s definitely worth the read for die-hard fans of the series.

Fantastic novella following the Howling Dark.
Hadrian is easing into his position and the new perspective it brings and it brought with an issue that the different parts of himself respond to differently.
Excellent progression of Hadrian’s journey and shows how his perspective has developed so far even from just the end of Howling Dark.
