⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book was enjoyable in that it kept my attention &it was easily bingeable. Otherwise I felt there were a lot of things that were farfetched or made me roll my eyes.
* I feel like Grady was either completely stupid or purposely obtuse. At one point in the story Grady finds bones &just moves on. He doesn’t think, what kind of bones are these or maybe I should tell someone there are bones here. It was very suspicious &made me question all his motives immediately.
* Grady goes to a small Scottish island to reset &I feel like the author did an amazing job setting that scene. I could easily picture the atmosphere, the town &all the side characters mulling around.
* The audio was fantastic! There were walkie talkie &ocean sounds that brought more entertainment to the story. The narrators did a great job adding to the suspense.
* The ending left me with a lot of questions! I mean, I’m kinda glad it turned out that way but it made me question a lot of things! It would be a good book to re-read/listen after knowing the ending. You would be able to find more Easter eggs.
I’d like to thank Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Ngl. I’m not really a mystery novel kinda person but this was like… okay. A lot of repetition and Grady just being a whiny lil bitch chapter after chapter. Grady’s part in the twist at the end felt half-baked. I did like how it wrapped up even if pretty far-fetched… so the final act was probably the best part. The Abby chapters were honestly made more confusing after the twist started and we learned more about Kitty, perhaps that’s a fault of consuming this as an audio book. When there was suspense it was good. I liked the creepy elements of this book and Grady’s questioning of his reality and how it felt a little mystical at times.

i think an issue i find myself frequently having with thrillers is that they take forever to get to the climax/twist and then everything comes unraveled in a few pages that make the connections feel rushed. I was definitely not expecting the girlboss plot twist this story would take (and that trick with the names was quite clever, albeit confusing)-credit where credit is due to alice feeney, she knows how to write a shocking twist! overall, i had difficulty getting through the book at times because i found the all of the narrators somewhat insufferable (grady the most, which I gather was the point)
I think the plot about women who had been so wronged by men then turning around to solely use them for profit was a really unique and compelling idea at the core of this novel, and i wish we had gotten to learn more about this society beyond just the few pages of explanation we got from kitty at the end. i think the messaging feeney was developing through the construction of this island could be even stronger if it was expounded on further through showing the readers the ins and outs of the island in more detail, rather than having a character explain the history in a rushed manner. i think without more detail/built up backstory, the twist itself felt a little farfetched. however, the last 1/4 of the book was fast paced and had me on the edge of my seat, wanting to know what was going on on this crazy island!
