Great read and glimpse into the makings of Cardan and the behind the scenes events who shaped him into the King we see at the end of Queen of Nothing.
First of all, the edition of this book is absolutely GORGEOUS. Following in line with the cover art, Rovina Cai’s illustrations are on the inside giving us a visual on the content of the story. But not only that, the pages itself are decorated and you can see that the paper is very high quality.
That being said, this book is not part of the main trilogy of The Folk of Air, more like an epilogue after it. It contains a few short stories of the world as told by Cardan himself. So if you liked the main series and if you are between the fans of Cardan, this may be one for you.
It is a very easy and light hearted read, I think I read it in an afternoon. I have enjoyed it but on the other hand, I don’t think is a read that was absolutely necessary although it does help to give Cardan some more personality background, as it is narrated from his point of view. Under normal circumstances, I would have rated it with a 2/5 stars, or as GR says, “not bad”, but because of the art and thoughtful edition I wanted to raise it to a 3/5.
