Well, this was quite a ride :D
Worldbuilding:
Was good, we're in a modern, post-apocalyptic (New) Chicago, and things really went south after the Magic Wars. Real food is impossibly expensive and only for the wealthy and supernatural and humans are at the bottom of the ladder in society. You really don't have a lot of options as a human in this world.
All scenes and environments were well detailed and clear. The author doesn't spoonfeed us the info, we learn together with the characters what's going on. And even that turns around so often, yeah, I'm not sure we'll really know till the end of the series :D
Character development:
Was good. Loved how Piper was this pretty damn cold and unapologetic bounty hunter, we really need more of those! You're either going to love or hate her :D
While both Piper and Nathalie have deep trust issues (amongst others), you do feel they have grown a lot during this instalment.
Ronan is still a delightful mystery which I cannot wait to unravel more of.
For some reason though (and this is probably entirely me), I just couldn't really connect with them :(
That said, they have good depth and are an intriguing bunch, even the side characters feel like they really matter.
Pacing and flow:
Were great! As we've come to expect from the author, the story just holds you in its grip and you're stuck with it till the end :D It had a lot going on, but didn't feel over the top or rushed.
Great balance between conversation and action.
The book itself was well written with no (noticeable) errors. There is no sex described (if that is important to you).
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and all in all I found it to be an enjoyable and intriguing read. I am looking forward to getting to know the characters more and to find out if Piper will ever get over her distrust of everything magic.

Great start to the series!
I absolutely loved this book. I started it and finished it in one day because I was enraptured by the plot and characters. It's got the perfect amount of kickass-ness, darkness, humor, and hate love romance. I need the second book NOW! ❤️

It started good, but the fact that the author kept dangling clues about the plot instead of telling the reader anything drive me nuts. I’m done.
