I was hooked the moment I started this book and I had one of those great moments where you want to spend through it but also take your time with it. I’m extremely intrigued by the world built in this first book and the power dynamics that were laid out. I am such a sucker for a good supernatural hunter story and this one is a lot of fun with many mysteries ready to be discovered. Plus what’s a better way to start a romance than with a bullet to the head? I can tell I’m really going to enjoy the hell out of this series and I’m not prepared for how quickly I’m most likely going to get through them all.

I loved this! It was fast-paced, interesting, very urban fantasy meets dystopia but not in the normal end of the world way. I loved the tie in with the supernatural, mythology/religion, and the tie ins to the real world. It was a well-wrapped package of greatness that has me impatiently waiting for book 2! The characters are an interesting mix and I cannot wait to read more about them and their quirks.

This was just a lot of fun to read. Can't wait to start book 2.

4 Stars

No one is more surprised than me that I thoroughly enjoyed this. Sure, there was a time I gobbled up MF urban fantasy like nobody’s business but because I’ve read so much, it’s hard to pique and maintain my interest these days.

This is a post apocalyptic future, where magic made a bombastic entrance forcing mundane humans to scrape the bottom of the barrel in the supernatural hierarchy. Piper is a hunter, working for a shady mysterious boss and doing his mercenary bidding while she tries to mitigate her guilt from a reckless past. In her efforts to do so, she comes to the attention of demon Ronan who recognizes her as his soulmate, and of course she’s not having one bit of it at all.

The world building is good, the troubles multiply quickly, and the slow reveals are compelling. Piper has yet to be annoying which is of the utmost importance for me as a reader. Though nothing significantly steamy happened, the pull between Ronan and Piper is yummy palpable which will definitely spur me to at least read the next installment. Wish me luck!

Just when you think you’ll get to the romance between Ronan and Piper, it ends. And now I have to read the second book. Too many unanswered questions.

This book was awesome and exactly what I had been looking for. It gives the vibes of The Hollows series by Kim Harrison and Magic Bites series by Ilona Andrews. I really don’t have any bad things to say about this series besides that the POVs from the MC(s) could have been left out with how short and what they didn’t really add to the story. Hoping to see more of them in the next book with more to add than just ‘here’s what they’re doing and thinking in this moment’.

I love the bond she’s forming with Natalie, it’s seriously so refreshing to see two female friends in a story that are both badasses in their own right.

10/10 would read again.
