I like the dry humor of the author. However, I had problems getting into the book. The plot was a little unfocussed when a lot of people were dying. I'm not sure yet if I'll keep reading the series, probably not.

Apparently I liked this better upon re-reading it. The series has definitely grown over time.

I'm still not sure I approve of how often Google & YouTube were mentioned. (You kids get off my detective fiction lawn! I don't care how many wizards are in it!)

This book is very good in its plot and really enjoyable. The reason I could not give it a higher rating is its unnecessary sexualisation of women, which made for some uncomfortable reading at points.

This was such an interesting and endlessly entertaining concept for a story: I couldnt have guessed where it was going. I loved the humour, the world building and the development of the lore. SOME of the humour maybe hasn't aged well and occasionally I found the writing fractured and a bit confusing, but to be fair I did read some of it whilst I was ill with covid. I look forward to reading another one! My best description would be Douglas Adams crossed with Harry Potter (a reductionist summary which devalues all three authors, but hey I'm not paid to write this and I'm still recovering from covid!).
