Saw this book on TikTok and didn’t know what to expect but my Lord this captivated me and I just couldn’t put it down, the plot was so interesting and well thought out. I can’t wait to read the rest!

We love content warnings at the start of every chapter and this book is good fun, but it drags a bit in the middle.

Umm this book was so good for no reason?!?! Gay sex wizards sounded like a fun read, and it was. Like, ridiculously so. The emphasis on consent made scenes fun and sexy when they could easily have left an icky feeling due to the extreme nature of the scenes. No icks here! And the magic system is well thought out! Loved the main character as well as all of the side characters we met at the Crux. It had this beautiful found family aspect I was not expecting at all. Content warnings are included before each chapter with extreme thoughtfulness and descriptive enough you know exactly what you’re getting into. It had an extraordinarily inclusive cast and the queer representation was immaculate.

So at first I was like “oh

I will admit, I saw it on Booktok first and decided I needed to read it. I wasn't expecting to love it as much as I did, but I'm curious to know how the next book will be. I thought the magic system was very clever and didn't seem forced or too weird, just enough fantasy. I appreciated the trigger warnings being present in each chapter, especially that they were included in the beginning and as part of the story. It made it less jarring to check them first. I really enjoyed the characters and the plot. Of course, it's super spicy, so be aware of that, but I would say very tastefully (pun intended) done.

This book was a super fun read!
It's been on my TBR for so long, I am sad that I waited so long to read it. Harry Potter who??
Initiation is an exceptionally unique tale of wizards who use components of the B D S M Lifestyle to cast spells. I thought the author did a wonderful job using the potential triggers as spell casting components. It gave the reader a direct heads up as to what they are about to dive into during that chapter.
I also enjoyed how fluid the characters are and how interwoven fantasy was throughout the story. Overall, I really loved it and can't wait to explore the rest of the series.

This book series was literally designed to perfectly fit everything I am looking for. I am barely resisting chewing through the whole series because I don't want it to be over so soon.

DID NOT FINISH: 6%

I've read other books where sex is open and used for magic or power or whatever and that felt fine. This almost feels like in trying to normalize sex it's being made a big deal of. I think this is a me thing since the book is highly rated.
