I initially rated this book 4 stars, but a month later and I canโt stop talking about it. Itโs getting bumped up for me. This book was so good. I think the author did an amazing job weaving the magic with the sex, while also creating high stakes that kept me interested. I cared a lot about the characters and I am interested to read more of them!

I can't believe I'm saying this, but it has some great plot...
I mean, I'm even shocking myself a bit here, ladies and gentleman. But... there's enough plot in this book that I feel like some of you might like it.

๐ ๐ฆ๐๐ป๐ผ๐ฝ๐๐ถ๐: Dominai is a poor hunter, who gets a mysterious invitation to The Crux. He has magic in his blood line - and not only that, but it's powerful. As he learns his new powers, he is also faced with the fact that powerful wizards are going missing in the kingdom.
๐ ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐: I'm just going to get right into it. Why beat around the bush? Let me tell you the dirty little details.
"Casting" spells basically means having sex. And your... uh...I. release creates the spell. And doing different things during your... uh sex... makes different types of spells. So you have the coitus, you get a magic sex bead for your wizard necklace, and you go about your day.
So you can see this is clearly erotica. It's also not for those of you who have (almost any) limits. The Crux is pansexual and pretty much a giant reverse harem, but even that sounds like too tame of a word because there's like 10 of them. There's men, women, beasts, and I swear on my life one time he's treated like a ๐. I'm just giving you all of the facts here.
But here I am reading it as a joke, and I was actually super into the actual plot. I liked the characters, and thought Dom was a good person to lead the story through. I also appreciate that while the book was full of impct play and submission and roleplay, it was all written super well and responsibly. There's going to be more books that come after, but it didn't end on a cliffhanger

This was a great start to the series. The characters are vivid, itโs spicy and explores kink without taking away any of the charactersโ agency, and thereโs an interesting story to move the plot along. Definitely worth a read if you enjoy a kinky romantasy!

I had a friend constantly recommend I read this book, but, as a mood reader it never quite met what I wanted. I finally bought and then listened to the audiobook and thought is was great. I just relistened to it and I think it might be even better than what I thought for my first listen.
The world in this book (and series) is interesting and unique. There is enough fantasy mixed with reality that it makes the world fun to discover and want to know more about. The characters are all great. There is one Main MC for the book and a large cast of secondary characters. So ofter books with a lot of characters can get confusing because they can blend into a who's who mish mash. That does not happen here. each character has their own personality and history and it helps the relationships between characters feel more real.
Yes, this is a book with a lot of steam. The hint is in the series name. That steam is a basis for the magical system and is an integral part of the book. The beginning of the book feels like it's straight up steam, it starts early and keeps on going. but after a bit the story starts to unfold. the characters begin to know each other, friendships develop, a wider plot develops and the steam develops into a hot fantasy and not just all heat. The heat never stops, but the relationships that they characters develop enhances those scenes.
As to the audio aspect. It is amazing! Blake Lockheart persorm the book extremely well. The characters are brought to full life, the steam elements have good emphasis, and the world and plot feel fully realized throughout. while listening to the book today I had the realization that this might be the best audiobook I've listened to. The book is fabulous, the narration is fabulous and it's only enhanced by a great production quality. I highly recommend the book and the audiobook for those that like them.
