This was a real page-turner.

I despised the parents in this story and I'm just so disgusted by everything they did. Their glimmers of love that sometimes showed up did not in any way, shape, or form excuse their sheer failure as parents. They did not provide their kids with food or shelter or safety and just... GAH.

What kept me going was waiting until Jeannette and her siblings got out, which was certainly fulfilled. What made this book a bit hard to read is that it's essentially written as a report, without much insight into how Jeannette was feeling during it. Which is fine as a memoir style - we're definitely not entitled to that. But the result was that I was left with a bunch of pent-up emotions because of the book I was reading, but it couldn't serve as an outlet for them.

I don't know, I was raging the entire time I was reading this book, but I wouldn't necessarily describe it as a negative reading experience? It be.

This is my favorite book ever. I have read it multiple times!
