“So you wanna be part of the Six, huh? You wish…” ~Jared, Ace, Mark, Josh, Aiden & Eli

Riley Clifton can’t remember a time when she wasn’t a part of the Six, a group of rowdy boys who would do just about anything for her. Growing up alongside of six guys is never easy. Especially in high school. Falling in love with one of the Six? Even harder when Ace has a hold of her heart, and he doesn’t even know it.
Jake (Ace) Aceton has loved Riley for a long time, but has kept the secret oath of the Six. Riley was off limits. At least until after graduation. When he overhears Riley admitting to her best friend, Paige how she feels about him, Ace doesn't let his chance slip by. Riley, in his mind, has always been his.
When her college plan falls through, and her future is left to the hands of fate, Riley finds herself scrambling to keep up with all the changes. But that's not the hardest part. The hardest part is saying good-bye, especially to Ace.

Heartache, hard lessons, and a love deeper than her Alabama roots will threaten to crumble Riley’s world as she waits for Ace’s return.

Will Riley and Ace’s love be strong enough to hold them together when life tries to tear them apart?

Thank you to Sonya for sending me a copy of this book to review.

The first thing I'm going to say is make sure you have at least 2 boxes of tissues nearby and are wearing waterproof mascara when reading this book.

The six have a great friendship. Each member has a different personality but they all compliment each other. Jared is the joker. He's constantly making people laugh but he's also the one winding everyone up. He knows exactly how to irritate you. He would definitely be a great person to have around when your feeling down. Josh and Jared love their music. They both play the guitar. Mark loves his photography and is always trying to capture the best moments so that they never forget them. Eli was the last member to join the six but he made them become the six before that they were just a bunch of guys who always seemed to be together. Aiden is the quiet one but like they say it's the quiet ones you need to watch out for. The one thing they all have in common is they would do anything to protect Riley.

Ace is the strong silent one. He has a temper that you can see flare out of control on occasions. He's also the one that Riley is in love with but she hasn't quite worked out how to tell him yet.

There are a lot of sad moments in this book and I could relate to how they all felt leaving each other behind. It reminded my of the end of Uni. I had such great friends that had been there with me for the last 3 years. We'd had our ups and downs, gone through good times and bad and the thought of them not being a few doors down from me any more was heart breaking. I knew they would always be on the other end of the phone but deep down you know it's just not the same.

There's also a lot of funny moments. There were times when I had tears from the sad parts on my cheeks then I would be laughing so hard at the next sentence.

Paige is Rileys only female friend. She was pretty great to her. She always told Riley the truth even if it wasn't what she wanted to hear. She also gave her a big kick up the backside when she needed it.

Riley and Mary helped each other a lot during the last few chapters. I'm glad they could be there for each other.

I loved every single page of this book and I honestly cannot wait for the next book in the series. That ending KILLED me.

I feel like I read a completely different book than everyone else. I read the synopsis and thought this sounds promising so I looked to the reviews to see if I should read it. Most of them are glowing reviews for how amazing this story was, how you feel all the feels and you don't want it to ever end and just so much love for the story. So I started reading The Summer I Fell and was just confused. It was not good. I did not feel any feels, it ends in a major cliffhanger but I don't care enough to go find book two to see what happens. That right there says a lot. A book can be just so so, but have a cliffhanger ending and I will at least look to see if I can find out what happens through other reviews or something, if not read the next book, but with this one I just can't.

The Summer I Fell is the story of Riley and her 6 guy friends. It starts on graduation night, but that didn't make a whole lot of sense since everyone ended up leaving pretty quick. Like Mark started college right away? He decided to start in summer quarter?? I don't know. I thought we would get to see the last summer of the six, see Riley and Ace fall in love, see lots of fun times between this tight knit group of friends and see how they try and deal with being separated. What you get instead is this constant stream of Riley being sad because everyone is going off and living their dreams while she is still stuck in their small town. She didn't get her scholarship to vet college so I guess that means she just gives up and does nothing (even though she does have options for ways to pay for school she refuses to take anyones help. Much better to just be all poor me, my life is so hard. Ugh).

One of the biggest issues with this book is it tells not shows. It says how close everyone is, but I never felt that. I never got to see why everyone was such good friends, really feel like I was a part of the group or even sad that it was breaking up. Sure Riley kept telling me, but I didn't feel it. There was also too much explaining who people are and what they were like. Like Riley would say something about Jared then go on to explain who he was in the group, how he was important to everyone, just too much telling me his role and not showing me. It also seemed like at some point during the story she thought how every person was the one who kept the group together and without them they would all drift hopelessly apart.

The other big issues? It didn't often make sense to me. Like why do the guys constantly lie to Riley? For no reason? Especially Ace. If he really loved her forever why would he lead her to believe he would be around when he knew he wouldn't be? That makes no sense! Speaking of Ace...the whole "romance" between the two of them was not good. It felt very...rushed maybe. Like their first time was over in about a minute, if that, and was one of the least sexy things I have read. Ace hears Riley tell her bff she loves him, he storms in, immediately takes off all her clothes and his (this maybe takes 10 seconds) then he is immediately in her and they both come in two seconds. No warm up, not talking, no saying sweet nothings to each other, nothing to make me connect with the characters at all. Nope just silent, awkward sex. At least for me. And that is just the way it was every time. I didn't see the connection between the two at all, they barely seemed to talk, they would just have sex in 30 seconds flat then go hang out with the rest of their friends. Sorry, but I want a little more finesse with my guys. I want him to seem to be into the girl and not just getting off as quickly as he possibly can. It was not good.

So there was lots of bad with the story. I'm trying to think of something I liked, but I can't really. It was flat, too quick with some things (like the romance), but really slow with others (how long do I have to read about how sad it is that everyone is leaving?) and just not a very good read. And that ending. I was just like seriously? You are really trying to go there? Okay...I am done. If I had been enjoying the book at all the ending completely ruined it for me. Not because it was a cliffhanger, but because of what the cliffhanger is. Lame to the tenth degree. Not the book for me.

This book was so dumb. I will not be reading any of the sequels considering I do not care about any of the characters.

The Summer I Fell by Sonya Loveday was a good book. I love most of Sonya Loveday's books. They all have these super interesting characters that make you want to keep reading. When I was reading this book I couldn't put it down. It was fun and entertaining. I liked how they had some adventure but not a lot. I also liked how Ace and Riley had to make sacrifices in the book.

All of the characters in this book had different personalities and that made this book 100 times better.

This book was a quick read for me. I read it in 2 days. I think that this book is good for people who like books with romance, sacrifice, and adventure.

Sonya Loveday's other two books were great also. I feel like the books got more adventurous and more mysterious. The Summer I Fell was a romance novel. Then The End Note had some adventure but it was mostly about love. Then finally in the book If Ever I Fall. It was more adventurous. It had romance but I feel like it was a smaller part in this book than the other two.

I wish Sonya Loveday is going to make more books in The Six Series I love them. I hope you guys do to.

xoxo,
Bebe

I want to absolutely love The Summer I Fell, but I am not sure how definite I feel about it. I loved the story line and plot, but there were some major gaps and everything happened really fast.

One of the biggest issue with The Summer I Fell was the gaps in the story line and the lack of a back ground information on 'The Six. The story begins right after the graduation ceremony, 'The Six' and Riley are at some big back woods bonfire partying it up with other high school graduates. There are no real introductions when it comes to all the characters. You are just told they are boys and have been friends sense forever. I have no idea how Riley was able to join their boy group, unless I somehow missed that portion of the story, I didn't read where that was explained.

It seemed like the author had a hard time juggling all the characters and their stories. This created a lot of gaps in the story that you just had to guess about what had happened. The biggest being what happened to the boys after they left their small town of, I believe Opp (?? I think I read that it was Opp, but it was only mentioned once in the beginning so I have no idea). We know two go to college, two join the military, one goes on a volunteer trip to Haiti, and one is suddenly a rock god. Some characters we hear about others just seem to fall off the face of the earth.

I should give The Summer I Fell two stars, but I was feeling kind this afternoon so I gave it three. I am anxious for book number two sense this one ended with a cliffhanger. I have a feeling we'll be seeing a new side of Jared and Riley's relationship now that Ace is gone away in the military. It's a love it or hate it kinda book. I am choosing to love it because I like the story line.

SERIOUSLY, that's how the book ended?!

Omg this book. It tugged on my heart strings, it annoyed me and soaked me in all at the same time!

Those 6 boys drove me crazy that I totally understand how Riley feels. The love they all have for her is evident and you can feel the special bond between each guy and Riley coming through the words.

Every single chapter ended on a cliffhanger, I couldn't stop reading I just needed to know what happened. This book had me wanting more story to enjoy, more pages to turn so I cannot wait for the rest of the series

This book made me feel. It didn't tell me what to feel, but the way the words are written it just captured my attention and my heart and my emotions took over.

I loved Riley's story and look forward to figuring out this cliffhanger.

Grrr. This book made me so freaking angry!

Reading this book I felt like I was dropped in on a story that was already in progress. This felt like book 2 not the first book in a series. With little to no back story and no real description of a past or what had led up to any thing, I found myself in a constant state of "Did I miss something?"
Not only that but I felt like a lot of everything was just so unrealistic. I mean really, no spoilers but half the time I just want to scream "Who does that? And who says that's?" And if it's summer how is Mark already started college classes?! I was just a little confused.

Ok now the ending was a big punch to the face. Can we talk about how it was the worst ending ever? You agree? Ok great. Ugh
