Great book! Couldn't put it down, got through it in one week, and it was a super busy week if that tells you how good it was. I like the Bridgeton meets Downtown Abey Vibes. I had never read a Daisy Goodwin book and I'm so glad I picked this one up. Ready to get another by her.
Not the beat book if you like strong female leads, but a love story that pushes through some realistic topics in relationships. Pretty Period accurate to those situations.

Easy, summer read. No really exciting characters, the plot was what you might expect, but it was a fair example of the kind of book it is: edwardian-style scoiety intrigue. Cora was headstrong american heiress, but not nearly headstrong or interesting enough to make you root for her in the least. Her Duke was intended to be brooding, I guess, but he struck me as kind of dull. Even the Double Duchess and Charlotte meant to be the villains of this tale weren't nearly dastardly enough.

I really enjoyed this book. I bought it a while ago, and never got around to reading it. However, I was challenged to read it through GoodReads for the month of September, and gladly took up the challenge. I was not disappointed.

While it took me a couple of pages to get used to the writing style (for some reason it seemed off at first), I loved this book.

I found the similarities between it and Downton Abbey to be a bit off-putting, I will admit that. I didn’t like ALL the similarities, like a lot of the names where the same, almost the exact description of the grounds, so many similarities. Also plenty of differences, but in the first 30% of the novel it was FULL of similarities.

I did enjoy the descriptions, and the throughness of the writing. I also liked the little twist at the end, and the ending not quite being what was expected. It was a very refreshing ending. I would honestly love for there to be a sequal, and would deffinately buy it!

I enjoyed this one, but also felt like a ripoff. Seemed like I was reading a Downton Abbey prequel - American heiress named Cora married a British noble to save his estate. Not meant as a knock on the book - I enjoy Downton - I just wanted more from it. But it was certainly a good, light read.

this book was awful. very slow beginning and couldn't get into it at all. don't waste your time!

Be careful what you wish for.

Good book, haven't read such a well written historical romance (gilded age) in a long time. Thoroughly enjoyed this.

DID NOT FINISH

Boring

I wanted to love this book. Honestly I did. The whole time I read it all I felt was bad for Cora. I kept thinking poor dear Cora. Yes she was a spoiled rich girl. Still she was nice enough and genuine. Her husband was a moody jerk, her mother was grasping and controlling. The perspective was confusing. A bit here and there from silly Teddy's eyes, a tiny peak from the Duke. Than all the back and forth between Cora and Bertha. Not knowing what was going on with the Duke left me as confused as Cora. I suppose the Bertha perspective was meant to be a look downstairs but as she was an outsider down there it failed. I think the ending ruined the whole thing. It wasn't happy it wasn't tragic. It just ended. What happened to everyone? I almost wish they had all taken it in turns to jump off the cliff.
