I was surprisingly into this book! Recommended and borrowed from my little sister, Kelli.
It’s the 1890s and the rich American girl is seeking a British title... you know how it goes...
Even though this was what I was expecting, it wasn’t exactly what I was expecting and I liked that. It is a romance, of course, but I couldn’t help but be into it.
P.S. Duke of Wareham... figure your life out. You are hot and cold and I’m over it. Also one thing that tires me in romances is how the whole book could always be avoided if the two leads ever communicated.
The resolution did take until the very last pages of a pretty long book, and it was a lot of build up for the quick ending.
But seriously, for its genre, I definitely liked it.

I was alternately entranced and repulsed by some of the characters in this book, but the storyline always kept me going.
I liked this book. I liked the main character, Cora. I liked the ending.
I enjoyed reading this book, but it definitely didn't pull me in so much that it bothered me when I put it down for a week.
I'd recommend it to anyone who likes Historical Fiction.

Here is my quick opinion of this novel: First, this is a light read. Any ideas that it is Edith Wharton should be placed out of ones mind.
Secondly, I'm not sure many people will realize this, but if you have read the book Alva and Consuelo this is pretty much that book made into a novel.
I enjoy books on the Gilded Age and found this beach read quite entertaining. It is not going to be considered prize winning literature, but I appreciate some books for their easy virtue.

Set during the Gilded Age, The American Heiress brings to life the era in all its opulence & excessiveness. With the exception of the ending, which is sadly rather lackluster, the plot is compelling & filled with mystery, intrigue, & well-crafted characters. It is the perfect read for fans of The Gilded Age or Downton Abbey.
