THIS BOOK DESTROYED ME!
It was great from beginning to end, but oh! the ending *cries*.
I will always love how V Schwab shows that the definition of light and darkness, and good and evil are never as clear as we make them out to be. She blurs the lines so well and makes you love all of the characters so much!

Like all books written by Victoria Schwab, this was a beautiful, tragic, emotional story that will haunt you long after you closed the book. The story picks up a few months after the events of THIS SAVAGE SONG, with both August and Kate having veered off in different directions but leading vastly similar lives. Fate inevitably twines them back together and pits them against new, terrifying monsters, and even worse, their own inner demons. Kate had exponential growth as a character and faced two unconventional demons, but it was August's inner demons and turmoil that really stole the show. For the most part, this sequel was a little slow in the middle, allowing for a lot of tension and drama between the characters and their internal wars. That said, the ending was explosive and unpredictable, right until its gut-punch, heartbreaking ending. This duology was beautiful and heart-wrenching and unforgettable, and I recommend it to literally every person I know who enjoys reading. It will break your heart, but you'll never forget it.

As with the previous book in this series, it isn't QUITE my sub-genre of choice, and I also deeply appreciate Victoria Schwab's ability to write nuance and complication into (YA) fantasy. This book is dark with a capital 'D', that is for sure, but it doesn't bother with annoyingly tying up loose ends into something pleasant. A very good read; I also LOVED that she made the effort to include a character using gender neutral pronouns.
