A rare extreme horror gem, where the horrifying acts are interspersed with beautifully emotional commentary which does nothing to soften its blow. I really connected with the blankness of our protagonists conscience.
A horrifying vile book which deep down is just really fucking sad.

The beginning of the book was great! There was a nice momentum to the plot and I was very intrigued. About halfway through, it really slows down and it didn't pick back up from there. I devoured the first 80 pages, the 60 after that were kind of difficult though. True Crime is probably the best written I've read of modern extreme horror if rather plain at times. Kolesnik has a great sense of focus in her writing while still giving nice gorey details. The dynamic between Suzy, Lim, and Mama is rather disturbing. However, I feel the strangeness between Suzy and Lim could have been emphasized more. I always felt like there was something more to their relationship that wasn't being put to the page. I wish the second half kept the pace of the first half and the narrative could have been more extreme, but overall I enjoyed reading it over the past 2 days.

The story has a good pace & is pretty gory. The beginning structure has some similarities to Brother by Ania Alborn. I enjoyed the tension and different stages this story ended up taking.

i didn’t like this book’s writing. every scene flashed by without much description and it never seemed to build up to a proper conclusion. the end seemed rushed and i never really understood any of the characters despite it being a very character-driven book. the plot seemed aimless at times.
but that being said, it’s very sad. it’s a book about someone whose experienced horrible things throughout her life and is never able to escape the cycle of abuse because of the hauntings of her past. it is able to show how abuse can permanently damage a person until they fall into a cycle of violence, self-destructive behaviour and self-hatred.
