True Crime starts in your face with the abusive living situation that the siblings, Suzy and Lim, are living under. Once the siblings decide enough is enough, they murder their mother and embark on a murderous road trip to get away and start over.
I read the entire book in one sitting. At a little over 150 pages, I expect a portion of the story to be lacking. This was not the case. There is so much depth to Suzy and Lim. As an avid follower of true crime, this book really speaks to the nature vs. nurture question is frequently discussed. I am looking forward to more of Samantha Kolesnik's writing!

a few days have passed now and the more I think about this one the less I like it. it's very well written and a fascinating character study considering how short it is, it maintained my attention the whole time and it was a fast read, but the relentless bleakness, the cast of horrible characters and the implications about trauma survivors don't sit right with me.
