better than 4-6 for sure, but stylistically very removed from the first six. love that we have a woman writing the series now but i do wish they’d just stopped after the first three
I don’t know what this was. I didn’t see Lisbeth until well into the book. The book was ambiguous. I kept reading figuring it would tell me more, but it didn’t. I don’t know these characters at all anymore. I think the new author pegged Blomquist wrong. He isn’t a bad guy. And she made him a has-been. Lisbeth talked too much. And apparently she’s a business owner now and mom? Huh?
There were little jokes in the book.. “You look like Noomi Rapace.” “Who?” I think the author assumed I knew Swedish politics. I don’t. But I do know what Rovaniemi is. Apparently Salander didn’t know they were going to Santa’s village. How did she not know that? It’s like world famous, as opposed to the difference between Social Democrats and Swedish Democrats. And why go to Santa’s village? Some details were gross and unnecessary. The book ended and I was like, um, what happened? Maybe what happened is in the next book.

Unfortunately, this book did not work for me. I did not care about Lisbeth/Svala's storyline and found myself glazing over it to get back to Mikael's plot. When you get to 40% into a book and feel like nothing significant has happened yet, there's a problem. Also, I really dislike when you can tell that the author worked in their personal feelings into a novel. Just stop that. I love The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series but I don't think there's any impact of picking this novel up.
7th installment in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series. First book by the third author in the series though. It was good. Engaging. But just not Stieg Larsson. RIP.

The Girl in the Eagle’s Talons is the seventh book the Millennium series starring Lisbeth Salander, this one written by, new author to the series, Karin Smirnoff. In Lisbeth Salander’s return, she finds herself in the small town of Gasskas where she has been named the guardian of her niece, Svala, whose mother has disappeared. Mikael Blomkvist also finds himself in Gasskas for his daughters wedding. When kidnappings start and a mystery emerges, Lisbeth and Mikael team up to get to the bottom of it and find justice the only way they know how.
I am a big fan of the original books in this series, but this is the first book by a different author that I had read. This book has all of the normal Lisbeth Salander elements and it should have made for a great book, but I just couldn’t find myself getting into it that much. Maybe it was because it’s been so long since I’ve read the first books in this series so I found myself getting more of a nostalgic feeling for Lisbeth and Mikael instead of being invested in their current story. I don’t know what it was for sure, but I didn’t connect with this book like I did the originals. I did enjoy revisiting these two characters that I love and am glad I read this book, but it just didn’t live up to my expectations. If you are a fan of this series, this is worth giving a try. You may be able to connect with this in a way that I couldn’t.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book!

Finally back on track
After the disastrous last book I’m glad this series is back on track. I’ve missed Lisbeth and this new author gave her the justice she deserves. Love the new characters. Only real complaint is that at different points there were so many names it was hard to keep track of all of them. But a minor point in the long run. Can’t wait for the next one.
