K.F. Breene has definitely found her niche in the urban fantasy romance genre. In Sin and Chocolate she weaves complex protagonists who are flawed and feel real despite the magical setting they reside in. The magical system is unique and so are the characters motivations. The villains as well as heroes are three dimensional and even though gods and demi-gods are well trod ground in urban fantasy fiction, Breene manages to keep things fresh and interesting.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s definitely more of a set the stage book, but I did not feel like there was a lot of unnecessary filler. I love the unconventional family of the FMC. I love Alexis’s (FMC) spirit and moral compass. Her two teenage wards also are unique and are an awesome addition to the story. I like that the FMC and MMC are adults (~25ish) and nothing school or college. I also like the MMC thus far - even though he is the epitome of privilege, he seems to realize where that privilege can cause shortsightedness and tries to remedy that.

San Francisco, here we come!
I’m a huge fan of KF Breene’s other works and I can tell the Demigods series will be no different. Alexis’s internal dialogue, Frank, Mordie, and Daisy weasel their way into your heart faster than I’d think possible. I can’t wait to see where the next book takes us!
