A friend recommended this series, and I am not disappointed in the least.

This book introduces us to the demigods and lesser fae that reside in a modern day San Francisco. Humans and fae are separated in different parts of the city and there’s a small area in the middle where a bit of both reside. This is where our story begins…

Alexis and 2 children that she has taken into her home and raised as her own are struggling to make ends meet. A chance encounter with a demigod turns her life completely upside down. She learns more about who she is, and that her gifts might not be what they seem.

We also are introduced to major conflict as we meet the evil antagonist who, like many other antagonists, wants to gain more power over the city and rule it as his own. We hate a power hungry prick with control issues. (Word of advice to Mr. Bad Guy, get some therapy).

This series is completed and available from Kindle Unlimited. Binge it. I had to wait almost two years to finish the four books that came out after I read the first two. It almost killed it for me because I forgot a lot between books. Binging it will make it much better.

I really enjoyed this!

I was a bit lost at the beginning, I probably should have reread the book description, but once I caught on I really enjoyed the pace and development of this book. Breene has a knack for giving us a taste of the spice that’s going through her head. I’m looking forward to book two!

K.F Breene has done it again, I feel like this series brings together all the amazing parts and styles of her previous amazing works (DDVN, The Darkness Series and The Warrior Chronicles). She brings together a wonderful world full of amazing and interesting characters that I cannot wait till get better acquainted with. Even the side characters draw me in and hopeful for side stories. The world building brings you in and doesn’t let go, you’re left wanting more, to know more, to explore every each of the world. K.F Breene brings together humor and lustful heat like they were always meant to be together. I love the switching between the main characters (our newly beloved heroine Alexis and our demigod Kieran) to see inside their head, hearing their internal monologues and I’m also hopeful of some side character chapter (The Six and the Wards)
The main reason I want the audio book is I’m not great as hearing and feeling tone and reflection when I read a book on my own. I’m more of a visual person and listening to an audio book opens my mind to see the story just like watching a TV Show or Movie but honestly I feel like it’s more because I get to use my own imagination. I probably will edit/add-on to my review once I’ve gotten my hands on the audio book.

Some of my favorite quotes – “Was he Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hard-On?” “Batshit and Tiaras” “Mother-Trucker Biscuit Fucker” – OH KF BREENE WHERE DO YOU FIND SUCH WONDERFUL WORDS.

I can’t wait for the next one in this series and to see what happens next with Lexi and her wards, and Kieran and his Six.

I really liked the characters in this book but the editing was kind of poor- there were several times I had to re-read a sentence because it was so awkwardly written, and then there was the time they used “scarfs” instead of “scarves”, little errors like that in a book are one of my pet peeves. I also hated how Kieran was so possessive for no reason, that shit is a major turn off. He started calling her “his” like Um no? They haven’t even gotten together…definitely rubbed me the wrong way. The setting, magic system, and storyline seemed really cool, and like i said I really liked the characters, but the way the romance was written I don’t think I will be continuing with the series. The other gripe I have with this book is the pace, it will probably pick up further along in the series but nothing really happened in this one, the entire book was just setting up, which is fine but usually there’s at least SOMETHING major that happens.

Plot or Character Driven: Plot

I couldn't even finish and I honestly don't know the last time it happened. It felt like a struggle to turn the page and I couldn't find myself liking any of the characters, especially Alexis. She was plain horrible and I could not get on board the bandwagon to care what happened. I feel bad about this review because I've never written a bad review before, but I felt like it was a mistake to buy.

Such a Fun Read!

Wow! This was such a fun read! I’m in love with the characters who stayed true to themselves from beginning to end. I love how the book came full circle at the end. I was at first perturbed that Kieran’s side was third person while Alexis’ side was first. I thought it would really throw me off, but I got used to it. I can’t wait to read the others in this series!

Could not put it dowm

I started reading K.F. Breene with Shadowspell Academy, and read her Demon Days, Vampire Nights series, so should have expected a good story and characters that captured me immediately. But damn. This book was all that and more. Great characters with depth, great storyline, and I can't wait to read the rest the series!
