This was a very long book
I felt overlong
The book within a book didn’t really work as Jess would stop reading (any one else would have skimmed read to the end)
Nora came across as controlling & gaslighting Polly but this great character that Jess implied
The ending was poor in opinion with Meg being the culprit & Thea being Percy’s child all a bit too tidy
That said I did enjoy it as an escapist read

This was a great read! The story is heartbreaking and the mystery of the whole thing was so intriguing. Unfortunately, I really didn’t like Jess very much and as the book went on, I found the story from the past more interesting. I did somewhat guess what the outcome would be, but I didn’t have everything right…

Truly cannot give this anything less than 5 stars. What a spellbinding Australian novel of rich and complex characters. While I suspected early on that Polly was the missing child nothing could have prepared me for the final twist. It is a slower paced story which lends itself beautifully to allow the reader to absorb, and be absorbed, within the multiple different POVs.
This is the first book Ive read by Kate Morton. It was beautifully written. A few twists I guessed and a couple I didn't. Was totally engrossed the whole way through

Girl who had an absent mother and was mostly raised by grandmother learns more about family history. The cause of death was less interesting than I’d hoped. It was fairly easy to predict that the mom was really the grandmothers niece. From description I thought the grandmother would have been doing something more nefarious. overall nice story and speaks to how people deal with crises

A good story but the “book within a book” fell flat for me. I found those parts boring and think overall the book could have cut 1-200 pages. Also thought the “book/home” theme was heavy handed by the end. It was clear throughout the book and didn’t need to be spelled out.
