Another gorgeous book from Kate Morton. A well-told story and a mystery that kept me guessing throughout. Plus Australia! Minus one star for Nora never getting what she deserved.

Set in 2 time periods 1959 and the present, the main location being The Adelaide Hills Australia. It is a scorching hot Christmas Eve when a mother and her young children are found dead at their homestead by creek. A murder investigation is called and the most shocking and perplexing murder cases in the history of South Australia begins. Many years and miles later Jess a journalist working in London get the call that her beloved Grandmother has had a bad fall and rushes back home. While at her Grandmother’s (Nora) house she finds a true crime book about the police investigation into the long ago event. It is only when she is skimming though the book she discovers a connection between her own family and this infamous murder mystery that was never resolved satisfactorily.

Infelizmente este livro não foi para mim. Se a autora tivesse reduzido o livro para metade, teríamos aqui uma história magnífica, cheia de segredos e descobertas, mas infelizmente andamos 400 páginas a enrolar a história e estive várias vezes para dar DNF.
As últimas 100 páginas estão muito boas. Descobrimos toda a verdade nestas páginas, a história desenrola da maneira que eu queria que se tivesse desenrolado, mas estas 100 páginas não conseguem compensar o aborrecimento que foram as primeiras 400. Não estejam à espera de grandes plot twists também. Se estiverem bem atentos ao livro e às histórias contadas, conseguem perceber os plot twists que vemos no fim.
Em relação à escrita da autora, acho que foi boa, muito sinceramente. A maneira como ela escreve é boa, podia era ter diminuido as páginas do livro. Mesmo assim, acho que vou experimentar outro livro dela no futuro.
