A high energy ride that from beginning to end had me flipping pages so quickly! Doyle is a detective that from an incident is put on suspension and he heads home to his parents' former home as they have both recently passed away. Upon arriving in the farmland of Pennsylvania, he is immediately swept into some drama that wouldn't normally be seen in this rural, small town.

Not a bad or a good book. Just wasn't for me.

Just finished Jon McGoran's DRIFT in record time--a fast-paced thriller with an plot made more alarming by its plausibility. McGoran pits his very appealing hero, Doyle Carrick, against some dastardly villains, and also presents a cast of wonderfully drawn supporting characters. His portrayal of Carrick's relationship with his recently deceased parents is especially poignant.

A better than average story about a very interesting concept regarding GMO's. I liked it!

Racist remarks and terribly written descriptions of women.

I really enjoyed reading Drift. It’s certainly a page-turner (I read the entire book in one day), and it’s well-written. It made me want to learn more about GMOs and the debate surrounding them. The character development was lacking a tiny bit, but I think sometimes character development is less important in thrillers. For me, the point of suspense/thrillers is the story itself, and Drift provides a good story. I recommend it to people who enjoy reading the suspense/thriller genre, and I’ll be keeping my eyes open for more from McGoran in the future.

It seems like a morbid thing to say about this book but I thought it was really fun.

Reminiscent of Michael Crichton and Dan Brown, it is a fast-paced thriller with some teeth behind the scientific premise. I got slightly bogged down just past the middle (a lot of folks were getting killed and this rogue/suspended cop seemed to be getting away with too much) but I was enjoying it so much I was willing to overlook the "long-shot" aspects.

Some pretty graphic scenes (to me, anyway. The average thriller reader may find this stuff tame.) that I had to grit my teeth over but most things made sense in the scheme of the plot.

Even the ending wrapped things up well but I would not roll my eyes at a sequel.

3.5 stars. "Drift" is a thriller that incorporates several familiar elements to thriller lovers with some interesting and original elements that also hold major appeal. This is an eco-thriller which had me turning the pages quickly to see what would happen next. Thrillers are not my usual reading fare but I was really excited to read this one because of the eco element. This book proves that sometimes it's good to get outside of your comfort zone.

I really liked the storyline of this book. At the center of this book is a story line about Doyle, a hardened detective from Philly, who is trying to figure out why someone is targeting a small organic farm in the middle of nowhere in the wilds of Pennsylvania. Even though he's supposed to be laying low after being suspended from the police force, he wants to figure out what's going on. I thought this was a really interesting story line. As it's a thriller, it would sort of ruin things if I told you too much but you should know that there are a lot of great twists and turns in the story!

I really liked the character of Doyle. He's the consummate tough guy but as the book goes on, you can see that there is more to him than just being a cop all of the time. He slowly realizes that about himself but it takes awhile.

The book ended a little too quickly and I didn't feel like everything was as settled as I would have wanted it to be for closure's sake. I'm wondering if there might not be a sequel to finish the story a little bit. Overall though, this book is a great story!
