Nice Story, likeable characters, but all in all nothing special. I enjoyed the read but it wasn't that overwhelming. Fans of young adult crime will like it I think :)
So Good!! I kept switching suspects! This book really kept my attention!

I really didn’t know what to expect when I picked this book up. I had read so many great views of the book; I was just excited to finally have a chance to read it. I really enjoyed the book, and am looking forward to reading more from this author!
I really like the main character, Clarity. She’s different, but she doesn’t let that bother her much. I love strong heroines, and she’s definitely a kick-butt character. I loved her! The two love interests in the book are Clarity’s ex-boyfriend Justine, and the new town sheriff’s son, Gabriel. I am usually really good at picking a ‘team’, but I love both of these boys. It would be really hard to choose between them.
I can honestly say I didn’t see the end coming. The author had me second guessing myself so many times throughout the book. In the end, I didn’t have it figured out. I love a book that keeps me guessing! I was absolutely absorbed in the story. The writing was simple and suspenseful. This was a very quick read, I pretty much read it in one sitting.
Overall, I loved this book. It was great, and I’m kicking myself for waiting so long to have read it. I was beyond thrilled to find out it is going to be a series. I can’t wait to read Perception!
Happy Reading!

Clarity "Clare" Fern comes from a family of sensitive individuals. Her Mom is a telepath...she can read your thoughts, but only your current ones. Her brother Periwinkle "Perry" is a medium, he can communicate with the dead. And Clare who can touch belongings and see scenes of the past.
The Fern family has a new age business in their sleepy New England town. That is until a murder occurs and Clare is called into help with it and Perry is one of the main suspects.
Kim Harrington wrote a fun, fast moving mystery, that I devoured in one sitting. I do have to say that I called the killer back on page 40-something...but that was a guess based partly on the writing and mostly just on instinct from reading lots of mysteries.
I thought the Fern family was brilliant! Loved that they all had a gift and were using them as a family. Justin was a cool guy and he had a great back story with Clare. Also loved Gabriel's back story and how he is at odds with himself all through the story. I absolutely can't wait to read the next story in the series! I'm dying to see how Madame Maslov's prediction works out! And also if Perry quits being a man-whore. LOL

HappyCat is Happy that she has the second book in her house after having finished this one. Yay!
Honestly, I was expecting this to be worse than it was by the description, but it wasn't half bad. Clarity had a decently clear voice, and she was a fairly well made protagonist considering this was such a short book. I didn't love her, but I didn't hate her, I thought she was a little interesting to read about. I don't like that there's yet another love triangle here, but I do like that one of the interests is an ex-boyfriend that made a ridiculously huge mistake, and I like how Clarity was written to have handled that. Also, I'm always pretty inclined towards muder mysteries, so that gave this book points from me, but I didn't care for the Big Reveal so much as the actual search for the killer. The ending seemed to have fallen short.
If there's one thing that had me take this down a few stars, it's the cliche treatment of Clarity's poor excuse for a nemesis, Tiffany. Fake blond, big boobs, total slut, etc etc. Do Not Want. This kind of "bad" character being introduced in a book always makes me think a little badly of the author for choosing to focus on these things as clearly being signs of a "bad" person. Fake blond? She must be shallow. Big boobs? She must use her cleavage to get men's attention. Is sexually active? Ugh, well then clearly she is an impure skank! These attempts to show us who the evil one is are just tired and old. Work on character development, not sexist stereotypes.
Aside from that, this is a pretty light read that doesn't need to be taken too seriously. It's a page turner once the mystery gets under way, and I'd recommend it for anyone looking for something light and quick to pass the time.
