A solid 2.5-3 stars from me. The plot is a decently constructed mystery and the romance & supernatural elements generally work in its favor (rather than as distractions). The writing isn't the best but the story is fun and I can see this series appealing to younger high school students interested in detective stories AND high school drama.
I said a few reviews ago that mysteries don't seem to hold much appeal for me, but here's one that was an exception to that rule. I kept reading with interest because I wanted to know who was going to be the murderer and how the case would unfold. Perhaps it's because I was engaged by the characters and cared about what was happening to them. Particularly, of course, the protagonist, Clare. As the cover entices, Clare has psychic abilities, but they actually play a fairly minor role in the book except as they've defined Clare, her social interactions, her self-concept, and her motivations. She seemed real and so did her world, a small community in coastal New England. I happily recommend this one.
Clarity Fern is a psychic. When she touches things, she can sometimes access the thoughts another person had while handling the same object. Her mother and brother have their own psychic gifts. In "Clarity" by Kim Harrington, Clarity is called upon to aid the police in a murder investigation.
This young adult novel is reminiscent of the Lily Dale series by Wendy Corsi Staub. It is even written in a similar style. There was nothing great here, but the book was a solid three-star, fun read. The story had a little of everything, murder, love triangle, fatherless teen, womanizing brother, politics, business, etc. I recommend this one to teens who love mysteries and are looking for a fun read.
There is a follow-up available, "Perception", and it looks like more may be added in the future.

I enjoyed all the elements of this novel. It hit the right tone of paranormal and mystery for me. I can also happily say that it was not so predictable – I had no idea who the killer was, even right up until the reveal... and I pride myself at being able to preconceive these things. So it is a joy when an author can stump me.
Clare ‘Clarity’ Fern was an interesting protagonist, but the freaky outsider trope is nothing new. Neither is the love triangle which looked like it was forming. For some reason Clare, and the storyline felt very ‘done.’ Nothing about ‘Clarity’ felt original. Don’t get me wrong. It is highly entertaining in an episodic after-school-special kind of way. But expect cliché and stereotypes. Clare is strong-willed, level headed and takes in the world with a sense of sarcasm and irony. She is definitely a fun character to read.
Both Justin and Gabriel – the ex and the new hot guy were also fun to read – though I never felt like we really get into their heads. Maybe it’s the sparse form of the narrative, or that I failed to get an emotional connection with them. My biggest connection came in the form of Perry (Periwinkle,) Clare’s man-hoe brother. He was funny, oblivious, and so... well teen guy. I wonder if he will develop as a character in the sequel ‘Perception?’
‘Clarity’ felt very much an average read. The writing style, though breezy and totally encapsulating the tone of a teenage psychic, did not embellish much outside the essential. I wanted more description of the landscape, of feelings, and of the visions. Some showmanship if you will. This felt like a bare-bones narrative. I guess because of this approach the pacing was maintained from one scene to the next, focusing on the clues and misdirection.
There are plenty of easter eggs planted for the follow-up, but there is also enough solved in ‘Clarity’ to make you feel satisfied at the end. I’m definitely intrigued to see what ‘Perception’ brings. But I hope Harrington’s writing style improves to paint a more colourful canvas to keep me engaged. The formation of a mystery story line is masterful, her characters delightful, I’m just wanting to be dragged more into Clare’s world.
I’d recommend this more for the younger end of the YA market as the language choice, content, and structure is geared more towards a tween reader. A great starter novel for those wanting to test the waters of paranormal mystery.

CLARITY was a fast summer read that managed to be suspenseful but not stressful and made me totally love all of the romantic leads. I flew through it and am onto PERCEPTION!

La verdad es que al principio me parecion un poco tediosa la historia con algunos detalles que a mi parecer no eran nesesarios para la historia, pero como fue avanzando debo reconocer que mejoro mucho, sobre todo con el hecho de que te mueres de ganas de saber quien es el asesino y esa intriga te deja leer el libro sin perder el interes en el.

This was a fun read. The book is short but enjoyable. My friend recommended it to me. I am glad I picked it up. This has a whodunit mystery and in one part of the book, Clare's brother Perry, and the reaction minor characters show was funny. Clarity aka Clare is a girl with psychic abilities to recreate the past. She is snarky and fun to read. Justin is her ex-boyfriend who would do anything to get her back. He is brave and courageous even after . The ending was okay. Overall, a great read.
