Don’t let the title put you off! Wish this had been adapted into a film. One of my personal favourites.

Don't let the title of this book fool you. The name and author piqued my interest and I'm glad I picked this up. This is a perfect light, quick read with more than meets the eye.

It was impossible to read this without picturing Gene Wilder as the protagonist Peachy, which might have increased my enjoyment.

I knew absolutely nothing about the plot before picking this up, I just knew it was written by Wilder and that was enough for me. Luckily, I was not disappointed, this book has it all, humor, suspense, romance, and tragedy.

Peachy, a solider in WWI, is a deserter who flees a battle only to be captured by the Germans. He uses his quick wit to survive and convince the German's that he is a spy for the Germans.

Overall, the story is exciting and the prose is poetic. Peachy is the most lovable deserter you've ever met! Fantastic! Gene Wilder is just the best!

Succinct and elegant. Both comical and sad. Emotional without being too sentimental. There is a very clear cause Wilder is a legend in more art form than one.
