Isaace Asimov is my favorite author when it came to physics books, so I never thought he wrote mystery stories! His wit and sarcastic humor peeks through in this series, and I love how he reminds readers that problems in life are mostly solvable with common sense and a bit of creativity.

This is my second time reading the Black Widowers stories, with a long hiatus in between readings. It is a series of clever puzzles, some of which I was able to 'figure out' before the reveal and others which I was not. There isn't much characterization here (other than in the broadest terms) - the puzzle really is the story and everything else is window dressing. I seldom read short stories, and these just don't feel 'good enough' to warrant a third visit.

I had no idea Asimov could be so funny! Although most of the mysteries herein are more like brain-teasers or puzzles, this was still a very entertaining and thought-provoking read.

Fun little mysteries written in Asimov's approachable, friendly style. Not terribly deep, but one shouldn't crack open a book of short, formulaic stories expecting that anyway.

Classic short mysteries reminiscent of the old Ellery Queen short stories.

The Black Widowers are an amusing (if chauvinistically all-male) group of bickering friends who meet once a month for dinner, with an invited guest to provide variety. Over the twelve courses presented, they develop a tradition of solving (invariably Henry the waiter) some problem or mystery for the guest. Some of the twists are better than others but the setting adds charm to the stories, all of which I found eminently enjoyable. 4.5/5🌟
