3.5 stars. Read in an attempt to get out of a reading slump. Solid start to this series.

I don't hate this. I am left curious about how it will continue, but also like with all serial style novels annoyed it wasn't all in one book. I will most likely continue it at some point though.

It's definitely a unique set up for a vampire story. That alone deserves some praise.

So I paid for this book a while ago on kindle as it was recommended for people who’d read Of Blood and Ash (a 5star read for me) - I am incredibly shocked at the fact that this is only 90 pages long.

What the heck.

If you want a novella with a new fantasy world and an emphasis on the role of race + power in society, this one is just under 100 pages and pretty good! My guess is that between the four books it’ll be about the length of a normal 400-600 page novel. Loving fantasy series with a heavy dose of romance and my feeling is this won’t disappoint. While the first few pages might make it seem otherwise, book one wasn’t smutty! Here’s to exploring a new world and having vampires show just how detrimental racial and monetary hierarchies are to society. Already calling it, but I’m Team Drew all the way.

Thick as Blood

For something so short, there is sure a lot of substance to the first installment of the Charlie Travesty series.

The world and character building is rich, and I'm excited for rhe next installment!

This was interesting enough for me to want to read the next book (especially considering they’re so short), but I did have some issues with it. Mainly with the writing. I’ve read Fortunate Sworn by K. J. Sutton in the past and I saw the same issues I found in that book repeated here. I just think her writing can be quite clunky and therefore distracting from the storyline. But maybe that’s just me

Intriguing start. I'm definitely interested to see where the store is going and to learn more about the world. This first volume is very short so it's a bit of a tease because it introduces a lot of things but you don't really get to explore any of them. Looking forward to the second installment.
