A lot of stuff was packed into this short book and now I’m gonna need more! I like how the world is set up and I liked the characters. Definitely looking forward to more!

In the first instalment of the Charlie Travesty serial we are introduced to Charlotte Travesty who lives in a city ruled by vampires in a mansion as a member of the royal vampire family. On her 23rd birthday she experiences her awakening when a vampires eyes change colour. This colour dictates the individuals standing in society and where they live. However when Charlottes eyes turn lavender, it reveals that she is half-human and half-vampire, therefore she is exiled by her family and sent off to fend for herself.

Honestly I don’t have a lot to say as this is the first part of a serial so it’s pretty short. I found parts of this to be a little info-dumpy, there was so much information packed into short paragraphs which could be a little overwhelming. However I really liked the main character, she is naïve and has a lot to learn about how the world works as she lived in luxury before. We were also introduced to other characters such as Drew, for some reason I don’t trust him and I have a feeling he may betray Charlie in the future. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next instalment with her character as at the end of this part a new character was introduced who I’m assuming is going to be a love interest.

Overall this is a decent start to an adult paranormal romance serial with an intriguing main character so I can’t wait to read the next instalment.

So here's a thing I had some issues at the first with the writing style. Then the story was a little vain. However, I continued because the book was short. And I was sure that this is a 2 stars for me.
But, the very last page changed every goddamn thing! And now I can't wait to complete the sequel.

Oh hi, I'm hooked.
I felt this was just going to be "okay" until Noah Forrest appeared and well, now I'm into it.

Ok, I hadn’t realised how much I had missed vampire stories. They are back and with style!

A Whisper in the Dark is the first short in a series of 4 books in the Charlie Travesty series. This was the perfect opening and introduction. I’m so excited to read the rest of the series.

A very interesting start to this urban fantasy story.

Vampires are back baby. I'm getting all the Twilight nostalgia from the vampire storyline coming back into popularity. These authors are releasing this book in parts - this is the first five chapters and it's definitely an intriguing take on urban fantasy world building. Vampires rule a city filled with humans, slaves, and other magical creatures. The city is broken up into factions with very distinct class differences. Our main character Charlotte is cast out of her home in the palace and finds herself in the lowest of the low, struggling to survive in this new world outside of her golden tower.

I'm excited to read more of this story, and I kind of love how they're releasing it in parts. It's like your favorite TV show coming out every week but in book form.

Noooo... What? That was too short! Give me more!!!

*DRAMATIC PAUSE*

Listen, before I even review A Whisper In The Dark, I've got to once again thank Kelsey (K.J. Sutton) for reaching out to me not so long ago to offer one of her books to me for review because I now have to devour any and everything she writes. And that's not even counting her YA books I still need to check out. Her writing is seriously addicting.

Now back to your erratically unscheduled programming.

Drew nudges me with his elbow and I look at him. “It’s going to be fine, Charlie. Remember, you’re a badass vampire!”

So I was *vaguely gestures* around for the Twilight craze. I remember it all maybe a little too vividly, tbh. But I wasn't really into vampires or fan culture at the time so I didn't get to enjoy it. You can bet I'm jumping on the bandwagon and enjoying every minute of the vampire craze this time around. With favorite shows like The Vampire Diaries and Legacies and now amazing books like [b:Crave|45892228|Crave (Crave, #1)|Tracy Wolff|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1578850525l/45892228._SX50_.jpg|70730127] and currently, A Whisper In The Dark, I'm living for it.

In A Whisper In The Dark, the first story arc and novella, we meet Charlie, the vampire princess formally known as Charlotte. Charlie is on the verge of her Awakening, which is when vampires mature into adults resulting in their eyes changing colors. Charlie's father is the highly feared Vampire King who decided to split society up by factions depending on a vampire's adult eye color in an attempt to create a utopian society. (Think along the lines of [b:Divergent|8306857|Divergent (Divergent, #1)|Veronica Roth|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1327873996l/8306857._SY75_.jpg|13155899]) Anyone who has ever read a Dystopian knows about how well that works but I won't spoil anything for you as I still think it's a fresh perspective on that and vampires in general.
Charlie finds herself in an unexpected place and is lost and confused. There's so many different paths her story can go and I'm eagerly awaiting the continuation.

Thank you to K.J. Sutton and Jessi Elliott for the early review copy!
