I’m finally reading things that have been on my tbr for years. Pretty much all Sophie Kinsella are lol.

This wasn’t what I expected. I guess I thought they’d be communicating online and not meet in real life until later. But that wasn’t the case. They knew who the other was so it wasn’t a big reveal.

I also really like that Sophie Kinsella books aren’t just about the romance. There is so much more. This one also has a lot to do with Sam and his business and how Sophie helped him!

There were definitely times I wanted to shake Poppy and tell her how she deserved so much better than Magnus. And Sam was great at treating her as an equal and caring for her without making her feel even more anxious.

Overall, this was one of my fav SK books!

Sophie Kinsella's books are by no means Shakespeare, but they are addicting and entertaining.

Poppy Wyatt was having tea with some friends at a hotel, celebrating her upcoming nuptials, when the fire alarm went off (fire drill). When it was over, her engagement ring was missing and her phone snatched. She finds a phone in the trash can and it becomes her lifeline to the hotel finding her ring. The problem was that the phone belonged to the now absent personal assistant of businessman Sam Roxton and he wants it back. In the meantime, Poppy figures finders, keepers and she's not ready to let this phone go.

What happens next is the most hilarious romp as Poppy tries to hide the fact her ring is missing, one that is her fiancé's family heirloom, and to help navigate messages received for Sam on her "new" phone. Her attempts to humanize him in his communication with his subordinates and third parties just wreaked havoc in his life. She is well meaning and clever but was pretty naive in her meddling. This made for many laugh out loud moments. Poppy's preparations for her own wedding add further complications, especially the tenuous relationship with Magnus' (fiancé) parents and the wedding planner from hell. There is a serious side, though, as her relationship gets tested and Poppy has to deal with some disappointments about Magnus.

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was fantastic, one of the best I've ever heard. She brought the story and characters to life in a way that I don't think I could have by simply reading it in printed form. I highly recommend this format because it was a wonderful reading experience, making this one of my most favorite reads this year.

Poppy Wyatt is insufferable. She's actually so dense when she's supposed to be naive and charming. So judgemental and rushes into things without thinking about them yet has zero confidence in herself and has the personality of a wet welcome mat. The girl had no spine and no redeeming qualities!

Plus the drama at Sam's firm was never handled realistically (and yes, I know Kinsella novels are basically cartoons so a bit of this is to be expected). Sam himself was interesting but there was no reason for him and Poppy so end up together. I could not see what he supposedly saw in her.

And don't get me started on the terrible love triangle. It was so unnecessary. Poppy's story would have been so much better without the marriage plot. If she had learned to think for herself AND to be less judgemental about others that would have been enough. That would have been a solid character arch. Having the wedding drama, evil fiance, and in-law miscommunication were just padding.

Despite only covering a week of time, the novel drags on! Several times I thought we were getting a resolution only to realise I was still hours away from "happily ever are."

Usually I really like Kinsella's stand-alone novels but this one was major miss for me!

You can have a weaker main character and enjoy their growth over time. You can even have one that's judgemental and learns to check themselves. You can even have a melodramatic plot with telenovela style pacing. But this book had too much going on despite nothing really happening.

Bem divertido

A fun read.

Hacía tiempo que no me reía tanto con un libro, ya espero la película
