Nie wiem z jednej strony jest to bardzo interesujący portret psychologiczny kobiety-matki, która poprzez traumę generacyjna nie jest w stanie kochać swojego dziecka, ale z drugiej strony zakończenie, które ostatecznie sugeruje, że to, co przez całą książkę budowała autorka, jest jednak tym, co wydawało się przez cały czas bohaterce. Oczywiście można uważać, że przecież Blythe przekonała wszystkich, że córka jest psychopatką, więc Gemma też w to wierzy, jednak sugeruje to zakończenie, że to córka jest faktycznie tą „złą”. Nie licząc tego zakończenia, książka ta byłaby niesamowitym stadium dziecka-kobiety zranionej, z traumą, która odciska się na niej w późniejszym życiu, tak jak na jej matce i babci. Mając to, więc w świadomości, wolę właśnie tak interpretować to zakończenie.
