The end is a little heavy-handed, but other than that, a good and informative read.
Every non-fiction book I read, I can't help thinking "this could have been a movie," said in the same way one says "this could have been an e-mail."

This is the second book I’ve read by Sheinkin and my conclusion is that he’s great at writing historical nonfiction for young readers. He tells the story in such a gripping way. I normally breeze past the sciency parts of books like this but he explains atomic energy in such a clear way. Highly recommend to 8th grade +, or strong middle grade readers.
I was overwhelmed by the what-ifs, fascinated by the achievement, and horrified by the result.
I checked the audio version of this book out for my 6th grade daughter but after listening to it, I don't think it's for her. While I was able to keep track of the various key players and events, I don't think a sixth grader with no interest in World War II would stick it out until the end.
I finally "read" it (on CDs in the car). I really enjoyed learning about all the different facets to this story. Written like a story, it had a lot of facts thrown in, and I actually felt a connection to a couple of the "characters."
Well researched, and wonderfully written. After a few chapters you will find yourself questioning whether or not this is a nonfiction book. Sheinkin has done a masterful job blending facts with story telling.
This is a great nonfiction book, it is very easy to read and is informative. I learned a lot more about the race to have the atomic bomb. There is intrigue, spies, explosions, personal accounts, and photos. This is a great book for those nonfiction loving students.
Well-written. Fascinating subject and period in history.
Another book I read for my children's course. Interesting read.
informative
After I started listening to this, I remembered that I had read the graphic novel, but I didn’t record it in StoryGraph. I liked listening to this and am loving this author! I wish the movie “Oppenheimer” had used this text as that would've made a great movie!
