Was mostly interesting enough to keep me listening.
I'm confused about the race and ethnicity of the people of the common wealth.
It comes off as a white person imitating Asian culture.
And that's backed up because no one is mentioned to be asian. A lot of blue eyed people.
Vague details let's you know the location has Asian roots. But it's like if China was gentrified and colonized.
I'm not Asian but I feel like I'd be pissed if a white person used my culture as a plot device.
This ends on a cliffhanger.
But the description of Scarlett the next book has a different lead.
I liked the intrigue. And  rooting for earth.
I'm side eyeing the hints of Kai's bigotry towards Cyborgs.
Romance was about a 2.
The Romance was a subplot.

An absolutely fantastic read for younger readers! It was one of my favorite books in middle school and I'm glad to say it holds up! It's not perfect, I wish there were a bit more character development, and as a 19yr old, I can definitely see how it is not written for my demographic. I can't wait to finish this series in the coming year finally!

Read for a class I'm teaching next year.
I liked the story, but I am not sure it needed to be a Cinderella retelling. Interesting concept of an android vs. cyborg vs human vs. magical being society. I know it is part of a series, but I wanted to see more of the world. Not for me, but I understand why my students enjoy it.
