I cannot stress enough how much I dislike these characters.
So there's fan, and then there's obsessed. Guess who Teddy is?
This is turning grimy and gritty.

Wow what a rollercoaster of emotions this book evokes. Themes of watching your heros(literally superheros here) diminish are so well crafted on top of other elements of growing up.

Jeff Lemire had me used to something a bit deeper. This was good, but not great, maybe it could have been stretch a little bit more, to eight or ten issues to allows it some time to get some depth. The art was good, the concept original it just needed a little bit more.

I read this in issue form! Personally, I loved the artwork and the story, while darker than I usually go for, I thought was really compelling and I really enjoyed it.

Unlike his previous creator own works which deal with extensive world building and even just a tab bit of politics, Jeff Lemire has created a smaller story of children, friendship and superheroes. Clearly inspired by the likes of Stand By Me and ET, Lemire spins it on its head with superheroic antics that are both familiar but also new. It's both harrowing but uncomfortable but also heartbreaking and hopeful. And this type of story also matches to the art of Emi Lenox which appears childlike but still superhero like that it doesn't take away from the story.

Probably a 3.75 really. I prefer this type of artwork to the jumbled, chaotic frames of a typical superhero comic. It also flips the normal POV from hero to bystanders. A group of kids find Plutona lying in the woods. Rather than telling anyone (i.e. adults), they take matters into their own hands with not unexpected consequences. I read this for my 2017 Reading Challenge "read a book with pictures" and for the 2017 Hugo nominations (maybe).

Pretty dark and twisted. None of the characters are particularly likeable. Still, a compelling story and well drawn.
